Jamie and Jon: Engagement

We are excited to share Jamie and Jon’s engagement session with you! Jamie and Jon are getting married in September at Edenton Street United Methodist Church and their reception will be held at Cobblestone Hall in downtown Raleigh. We cannot wait for their big day- it is going to be so beautiful and so much fun!

We asked Jamie a few questions about their engagement and the wedding planning process. Take a look at their answers below!

How did Jon propose?
The way Jon proposed was so thoughtful and special! I could have not asked for a more perfect moment. I had been out with one of my girlfriends getting my nails done (perfect timing!) and when I was done, I called Jon to see what he wanted to do for dinner. Jon had just returned from a week long trip, and I wanted to go out to eat at one of our favorite spots, Relish, and hear about his trip. However, Jon said he just wanted to stay in and have dinner at the house. I thought this was unusual because Jon never turned down a night out!  When I got home, Jon was in the kitchen preparing dinner. I also noticed that our back deck was set up with a candlelit table decorated with flowers and a pair of antique champagne flutes we’d bought on a whim in Charleston that we said “we’d use to toast at our wedding one day.” After noticing this, I realized that this was not just an ordinary dinner. Soon, I began to get anxious and felt as if a million butterflies were fluttering around in my stomach. I asked Jon if he needed any help, and since cooking was not his usual forte, he let me take over. During the dinner, I barely spoke and at times I just started giggling, unable to hide my nervousness/excitement. I even texted one of my sorority sisters saying “This is it!” But, as dinner progressed, Jon seemed to play it cool and threw me off track. I quickly texted my friend back saying “Never mind, its just a nice dinner!” After we finished our meals, Jon went inside and brought out a late birthday present for me.  It was a book that he had created with special pictures, quotes and song lyrics that recreated our 9 year journey together from first meeting at NC State to our first date. What should of taken me an hour to look through, only took about three minutes, as I still had a feeling that something magical was about to happen. When I closed the book, I quickly hugged him and, letting my suspicion get the best of me, brushed my hand against his pocket and felt a box. “WHAT IS THAT?” I yelled! And with those 3 words, Jon got down on one knee to ask for my hand in marriage. I happened to still be wearing the apron I’d put on earlier, so I stood up and screamed for him to STOP so I could take my apron off. A girl should never get proposed to in an apron! I cried, laughed, screamed, and kissed him over and over, and of course, said YES!

So far, what aspect of planning your wedding has been the most fun to you?
I have really enjoyed planning the reception! Everything from deciding what flowers to have, to the color of linens and design of the cake! I really want the reception to reflect the love that Jon and I have for one another.

Do you have any advice for recently engaged brides to help them stay stress-free throughout the planning process?
My advice is to realize that not everything is in your control! Things are going to happen. This process will not be without bumps in the road, but as soon as you realize this, it will make the wedding planning process a lot less stressful.  What matters is that you have the support of your friends, family and fiancé along the way!

What are you most excited about for the day of the wedding?
The thing that I am most excited about is to see my vision of the wedding come to life! I can’t wait to walk through the doors with my HUSBAND at Cobblestone Hall, with my family and friends cheering us on, and see everything pulled together. I want the reception to be a fantastic affair that all of our friends and family will remember for the years to come!

What are three words to describe the feel of your upcoming wedding?
Southern, Romantic, Fun!

What made you decide to hire a planner?
My parents have spent so much time and effort (and money) helping plan our special day, and I want them to be able to enjoy it along with our friends/family. I knew that hiring a wedding planner for the weekend-of would give my parents the ability to be less stressed and not have to run the show! I have heard amazing things about A Southern Soiree, and when I met Kailey, I knew she was the right planner to help make my wedding dream into a reality!
