Meet Emma and Matt! This adorable couple is getting married next July. They will be one of the first couples getting married at the newly renovated Duke Chapel, with dinner and dancing following at Bay 7!! Emma and Matt always knew they wanted to get married at Duke Chapel. Between Emma and her family’s love for sports and Duke, and Matt’s commitment to the Duke Football Team…you could almost say it was a MUST!
Emma and Matt had heard all the legends and stories of couples camping out to reserve the chapel, but they still weren’t sure what to expect. After hearing that other couples were thinking about heading out to start the campout, Matt and Emma rushed over to make sure they were near the head of the line. Turns out they were FIRST!! After camping out for 6 days and meeting other wonderful couples, they were finally able to pick their ideal date and time :).
We asked Emma and Matt a few questions about their engagement and the planning process so far. See what they had to say below :).
Thank you to JAGG Photography for spending the day with Emma and Matt and capturing these awesome images!
How did Matt propose?
Matt proposed on a Saturday at the end of March 2014 by making me breakfast, which at this point I knew something was up because he never makes me breakfast. He went to make me coffee, while I was getting ready for the day to head over to my grandparents where the rest of my family was staying for the weekend. He asked for my help with the coffee, as I was in the bathroom trying to get ready to go – I was slightly annoyed because he told me he knew how to make coffee, I swung open the door and he was right there on one knee! It was very sweet and private, which was perfect for us! 🙂
So far, what aspect of planning the wedding has been the most enjoyable?
Truly, every part of the planning so far has been really enjoyable. I think a lot of is all about your approach to the planning you can choose to make it really stressful or you can choose to really enjoy the entire process. I have been pleasantly surprised by how easy finding “the dress” was, it is the very first one I tried on – I think “Say Yes to the Dress” had warped my mind as to what that whole process is like. But that said, everything has been quite smooth from flowers, linens, to the dress its been all fun and easy!
Do you have any advice for recently engaged brides to help them stay stress-free throughout the planning process?
HIRE A PLANNER! For me, personally, the idea of planning our wedding on my own with my mom sounded so incredibly overwhelming that we didn’t even know where to start. Gina has truly made this process so relaxing and enjoyable. Since, it’s the first wedding in our family we had no idea where to start or what to do (no matter how many bridal magazines we read – still clueless). My second piece of advice is to enjoy this time, it is so incredibly special and you should really only be doing this once in your life so enjoy every moment – we have been able to that with the help of Gina guiding us and helping us make decisions.
What are you most excited about for the day of the wedding?
Tough question! I think what I am most excited for is the doors of the chapel swinging open and seeing Matt for the first time. But I am also really excited for the party afterwards and being able to celebrate with our closest friends and family that we love so much.
What are three words to describe the feel of your upcoming wedding?
Us, fun, and fresh!
What made you decide to hire a planner?
It was a no-brainer after meeting with Megan and Gina it was even more obvious that we needed help, but also that Gina really had our best interests at heart. I left our first consultation feeling these ladies “got me” and understood what I like just based off my personality and getting to know Matt and I.
