Meet Bethany and Geoff! They will be getting married this July at the stunning Merrimon-Wynne House. Their ceremony will take place on the side lawn and the reception under the newly built carriage house! Of course, there is that slight chance it will be hot (come on .. it’s July in North Carolina), we are not letting that stop us from having the most amazing outdoor ceremony for this sweet couple. Without giving it all away, lets just say guests are going to have a great time enjoying some pre-ceremony cocktails 😉 We cannot wait to help Bethany and Geoff say “I Do” and celebrate with their family and friends in just 6 months!!
We asked Bethany and Geoff a series of questions about the wedding and planning process so far. Check out what they had to say below 🙂
Thank you to Melissa Maureen Photography for capturing these precious images of Bethany and Geoff during their engagement session!
How did you and Geoff meet?
We were both landscape architecture majors at Clemson University and were friends for a few years before a sarcastic friendship turned into a European love story. In the spring of 2010 we studied abroad in Barcelona together with a group of our best friends and something switched – we’ll blame Europe for this! It was the best semester of college and I was so thankful we got to share it together. Barcelona will hold a special place in our hearts forever!
How did Geoff propose?
It was the weekend of our 5th year dating anniversary and he had a weekend planned that he wouldn’t tell me anything about. We ended up going to Asheville for the weekend and exploring the city. Saturday morning we woke up at sun rise and went on a hike. I thought nothing about the backpack he had with him but I should have!!! He had mentioned having snacks earlier in the day so after hiking for a while and reaching a waterfall we decided to hang out for a litte bit. Naturally I was interested in these said “snacks” not realizing that would trigger a proposal! He got out a cake (cookie cake YUM) and I thought it said “happy birthday” on it which made no sense – as I looked closer I realized it said “Will You Marry Me” and I freaked out! I looked up and he was on one knee. He claims he had something sweet to say but I wouldn’t stop repeating “is this really happening” so he never got it out! I didn’t care though, I could not have been happier. I had a feeling it would happen that weekend; however, I never thought it would happen that morning which explains why I was wearing gym clothes with a bun on top of my head, but I am so happy it did. We headed back down to the mountain and by now it was close to lunch time so we planned to go to Wicked Weed and grab food and enjoy the day. I took my time getting ready not knowing what was waiting for us at Wicked Weed – OUR FAMILY!!!! We walked in and were lead to a table and there waiting to surprise us was my mom, his parents and siblings! It made the day I thought couldn’t get any better, that much more special! I so appreciate all his planning and preparation. I’m from Maryland so he had to get my mom down here and had his family drove in from Tennessee. Needless to say it was and will be the best Memorial Day weekend I will ever have!
So far, what aspect of planning the wedding has been the most enjoyable?
Getting to design our wedding day from the ground up! My fiancé and I both have design back grounds and I think that is why we enjoy the detail so much! Does it all coordinate? Is there a theme? Will it all tie together in the end?! It’s the little things that people probably won’t notice that excite us – like gold silverware.
Do you have any advice for recently engaged brides to help them stay stress-free throughout the planning process?
Get a wedding planner! Otherwise just try and stay organized and have a month to month plan. You don’t want it all to sneak up on you and happen at one time. Knock out the big stuff first. Venue (ASAP), band and food!
What are you most excited about for the day of the wedding?
Having all the people we care about in one place and celebrating with them!
What are three words to describe the feel of your upcoming wedding?
What made you decide to hire a planner?
I like to think I am super organized and a decision maker but I felt like a planner would be that much more helpful and make the process run that much smoother! We also aren’t from Raleigh and haven’t been to a lot of Raleigh weddings so as far as knowing the ins and outs of the Raleigh wedding scene I felt like a wedding planner was a perfect solution to that!
