Eliza and Matt’s Nashville Engagement Session!

Before saying “I do”at Duke Chapel and The Cotton Room this July, Eliza and Matt teamed up with their amazing photographer, Riley MacLean, for an engagement session in their beloved city of Nashville, Tennessee.  Following their dreams and jobs, Eliza and Matt made the move to Nashville and have begun planting their roots in a place they are proud to call home.  This sweet couple chose to incorporate their ridiculously cute dog, Oscar, into their shoot and we just can’t get enough!  We hope you enjoy a few images from the talented Riley MacLean.  We can not wait to celebrate with Eliza, Matt and their families in July!

How did Matt propose?

One summer morning while I was getting ready, Matt snuck out and set up a scavenger hunt to some of my favorite stores and restaurants in Nashville. At each spot, he had bought me a gift, from minor though delicious (a popsicle and a breakfast sandwich) to beautiful and precious (a necklace). Brief poems on cute cards directed me from stop to stop as I navigated the city until I ended up at our favorite park, laden with gifts and our dog Oscar, where Matt was waiting to pop the question.

So far, what aspect of planning the wedding has been the most enjoyable?

We’ve loved making the big decisions. In one week in Durham alone, we booked both our reception site (the Cotton Room) and our ceremony site (the Duke Chapel!), while Eliza found the perfect dress – all from our campsite on Duke’s campus. Getting the major stuff done early on both got us excited for the date as we could more concretely visualize what everything would look like and quelled our major concerns as the rest felt like small fish after that.

Do you have any advice for recently engaged brides to help them stay stress-free throughout the planning process?

Know what you want and stick with it. Rely on the few people closest to you who have similar taste to help guide your decisions instead of reaching out to lots of people who may not all know your style as well. Remember that it’s your (and your family’s) day.

What are you most excited about for the day of the wedding?

I’m most excited to walk down the enormous Duke aisle and marry my best friend waiting for me at the end. Matt says he’s just ready to see my dress after all of the hype. We both are extremely excited for the party.

What are three words to describe the feel of your upcoming wedding?

Classic, elegant, and convivial (we had to spend a little bit of time with the thesaurus to find that last one!)

What made you decide to hire a planner?

Living in Nashville while planning a wedding in Durham is no easy feat. Meeting with Kelley Ann immediately eased both my and my mom’s worries about an out-of-town wedding. Having an incredibly helpful and available resource to ensure that our wedding is just as we imagine it has been invaluable in the process so far!!
