James and Melissa’s New York City Engagement Session!

We are anxiously counting down the days until these New Yorkers make their way back south to say “I Do” this spring at the Carolina Inn.  In the meantime, we will continue to obsess over their amazing engagement session in New York City captured by the fabulous Caroline Lima Photography because let’s be honest, could these photos be any sweeter?  We hope you enjoy a sneak peek of their session while we wait for their 2018 spring wedding!

New York City Engagement Session

How did James propose?
He proposed at our apartment in NYC! After I said “yes”, he told me to pack my bags for a surprise engagement party in my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. Our friends and family were all there to celebrate! It was definitely one of the happiest moments of my life.

So far, what aspect of planning the wedding has been the most enjoyable?
This is hard. I have two favorite things. First would be dress shopping! It’s always fun to spend time with the girls, especially when you’re sipping on champagne and trying on gorgeous gowns! The second would be our vendor meetings. James and I spent a whole day with our planner Kelley Ann meeting vendors, looking at linen swatches and flowers, and creating a vision for our wedding. It was a fun bonding experience for the two of us and we know the wedding is going to be amazing!

Do you have any advice for recently engaged brides to help them stay stress-free throughout the planning process?
Don’t be afraid to speak up, trust your team, and keep it all in perspective.
Make your priorities known – for us it was having an awesome band, an outdoor ceremony space, and a venue where the transition between ceremony and reception would be seamless. I tend to be a people pleaser, so this was definitely the hardest part of the planning process for me personally.
We are lucky to have a great planner, who is taking care of the nitty gritty details for us and keeping us in budget! My MOH has also been super helpful in the process. We’ve been friends for over 20 years, so she knows exactly what I want, and she’s been able to plan all the parties and showers while I focus on the actual wedding.
Finally, I am just excited and grateful that in a few short months, I get to marry my best friend. How could I be stressed when there is so much to look forward to?
What are you most excited about for the day of the wedding?
I am most excited about the moment when the officiant finally announces us husband and wife! I can’t wait to turn around and see all of our friends and family there, ready to celebrate!

What are three words to describe the feel of your upcoming wedding?
 Fun, lively, unexpected

What made you decide to hire a planner?

My friends. I have several super close girlfriends who have had beautiful weddings, and when I started planning my wedding, they all had the same advice: hire a wedding planner! It’s some of the best advice I’ve received. Hiring a wedding planner has saved me time and has kept our budget in check!
