2012 Wedding Recap: Our Favorite Moments
So hard to believe 2012 is almost a wrap! This year has been the best yet by far and we truly cannot wait to see what 2013 holds! 2012 was a banner year in many ways… we topped our record for number of events within a year, we added several new locations (cities and venues) to our list of places we have planned events, and we continued to strengthen and expand our relationships with amazing vendors throughout North Carolina. We’re also so proud to have had three weddings featured on the national blog StyleMePretty. You can view these submissions here:

As we close out this amazing year, we wanted to reflect back on some of our favorite moments from 2012 as well as some of our favorite images! We look forward to a wonderful upcoming year with our fabulous 2013 clients and we are forever grateful to our past clients for inviting us into their families and trusting us with the details of such an important day in their lives!
Favorite wedding food (or wedding dessert) of 2012: I loooved the dessert bar from my St. Patty’s Day wedding at TPC Wakefield! Madeleine and Derek had a Bailey’s Ice Sculpture along with shots of Baileys (and coffee) for the guests and small housemade donut holes with an Irish Whiskey Sauce. The guests were all over this dessert bar!
What was your largest and smallest wedding of 2012? My largest wedding guest count this year was 275 and the smallest was 75!
Most touching moment of 2012: During my last wedding of the year, the bride and her dad had their “father/daughter” dance while pictures (and video clips!) of them played in the background. It was so sweet to see pictures of her as a small child all the way up until present day and it was obvious that she and her dad were very close. There was not a single dry eye in the house during this dance (mine included!).
Best wedding surprise of 2012: One of my grooms orchestrated a surprise PUPPY to arrive at the reception. I was in on the surprise with the groom and worked with the animal rescue service that was delivering the dog. The bride had fallen in love with the puppy weeks before and was dying to adopt him but the groom had somehow led the bride to believe the dog had already been adopted. The dog arrived right before dinner and we dressed him in a bowtie and cufflinks…. we walked the dog down to the tent and he came up right behind the bride. It was AMAZING! She was so shocked and SO happy!
What are you most looking forward to in 2013? I am most looking forward to seeing our team continue to grow and expand our presence within the industry. I also am so excited to work with our 2013 couples who are all so full of life, laughter, and great ideas for their big day!
Do you have a New Year’s Resolution? My New Year’s resolution is to be better about remembering where I set my keys down so Gina doesn’t have to remind me all the time. Oh, and writing more ‘Thank You’ notes!
Favorite song from 2012: My favorite song of 2012 would have to be Justin Bieber’s, “As Long as you Love Me”…I mean who doesn’t love Justin?!
Favorite wedding food (or wedding dessert?) of 2012: My favorite wedding food of 2012 would have to be the new fried risotto balls that Rocky Top Catering created for an open tasting- can’t wait to have them at a wedding!
What was your largest and smallest wedding of 2012? My largest wedding of 2012 was Brittany and Taylor’s wedding in my hometown of Salisbury with 300 guests and my smallest wedding was Emily and Steve’s wedding at their home in Raleigh with about 20 guests.
Most touching moment of 2012: There were many touching moments for me of 2012, but I would have to say that the most touching moment of 2012 would have to be from my last wedding of the year (December 29th) when the bride’s father thanked me during his welcome speech…it was the first and made me feel very special!
Favorite groom’s cake from 2012: My favorite groom’s cake from this year would have to be from Ashton and Jeremy’s rehearsal dinner in July at the Carolina Country Club. The cake was in the shape of a US Marine Corps hat.
Best wedding surprise of 2012: My favorite surprise of 2012 would have to be at Erin and Jon’s wedding in October at Stockroom 230. During the garter toss, as Erin sat in the chair, Jon and his groomsmen began singing the song, “Lost that Lovin’ Feeling”, with the help of their band…it was hilarious!
Do you have a New Year’s Resolution? My New Year’s Resolution is to learn something new! I have never been great at keeping my New Year’s resolutions, so I feel that I am pretty safe with this one.
Favorite wedding food (or wedding dessert?) of 2012: My favorite wedding dessert was from Beth and Peter’s wedding in September at Bay 7. Rocky Top Catering did an amazing job putting together a s’mores bar! The guests loved being able to create their own marshmallow, chocolate-y goodness indoors!
What was your largest and smallest wedding of 2012? My smallest wedding was Amanda and Jess in October with 13 ceremony guests at Flanders Art Gallery. They decided to have an intimate ceremony and then open up the reception to the rest of their friends. My largest wedding was Katie and Drew in October with around 195 guests at Angus Barn.
Most touching moment of 2012:One out of the many touching moments for me of 2012 was during Mela and Brandon‘s wedding in November at Bay 7. Mela’s dad was giving his toast and keeping with his military background he presented Brandon’s brother with a special military chip. It was so sweet to see the two families coming together as one!
Favorite groom’s cake from 2012: My favorite groom’s cake from 2012 had to be from Charlotte and Tony’s wedding this December at Carolina Club. Rameses, the UNC mascot, rolled out a tower of Bojangles Bo Berry Biscuits… can you say delicious!
Best wedding surprise of 2012: My all time favorite surprise was at Renee and Dean’s wedding in April at The Carolina Inn. Renee sat down in a chair on the middle of the dance floor for Dean to do the garter toss. Instead of Dean taking off Renee’s garter he started to say a speech and asked all his Aussie buddies to come help him tell Renee that he will be there for her no matter what (since apparently she will only listen if it comes from someone other than Dean). All of the sudden the song “I’m Gonna Be” by the Proclaimers started playing and Dean and the rest of the Aussies started singing to Renee.
What are you most looking forward to in 2013? I am looking forward to all the weddings we have coming up in the new year! All of our current couples are amazing and I can’t wait until their big day!
And now, a few of our favorite images of 2012….
