Kristen and Wes’ Hot Pink Wedding at the Umstead

After postponing over a year from their original April 2020 wedding date, Kristen and Wes were able to finally host their loved ones for their June 2021 at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, North Carolina. It was our first wedding after the majority of pandemic restrictions had been lifted and what a way to celebrate! 

Kristen envisioned a chic, hot pink wedding with monochromatic florals and gold accents. We added subtle pops of lavender throughout the design to create some dimension. Bridesmaids made a statement in fuschia satin twill gowns. Kristen, as well as her bridesmaids, carried calla lilies down the aisle - a tradition that goes back three generations in her mom’s family. 

The couple exchanged vows under a dramatic arch on The Umstead lawn. Due to the change in wedding months, we wanted to ensure guest comfort at the cocktail hour and opted to tent the terrace to provide shade. During cocktail hour, guests mingled around a modern glam lounge vignette complete with the most exquisite hot pink sofa. 

A champagne display held escort cards with - you guessed it - hot pink calligraphy. Guests were welcomed into a ballroom full of roses and candlelight to be seated for dinner. The focal point of the reception space was an elevated floral installation that ran the length of the head table with suspended glass globes that held votive candles. The center of the room was full of wow factor, as there was also a floral chandelier over the dance floor, in addition to specialty draping as a backdrop to the band that impactfully softened the space. 

Guests were treated to a three course meal experience before the dance floor opened with a stellar performance by The Dickens Band. As the evening went on, a cigar roller set up on the terrace as a surprise that Kristen and her mom had lined up for the father of the bride.

The couple departed at the end of the night with a cold spark exit to rest up before their send-off brunch the next morning at Kristen’s parents house. It was certainly an evening to remember for their guests, who still rave to this day about the striking pink palette and amazing party!
